MHC runs regular Shabbat services on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, and a regular Thursday early morning service.
Friday evening services are often held in the intimacy of the Minor (Herscu) Synagogue, and generally last between ¾ hr and 1 hr. They are a lovely day to end the week, with the camaraderie of a group of regular congregants, with all congregants welcome.
In the summer months, as Shabbat begins late, those Friday evening services are held relatively early, approximately 6 pm, before sunset, and therefore are abbreviated services lasting some 20-30 minutes, which also allows congregants to drive home before Shabbat actually begins. In the winter months, services are held starting between 5 and 5.30 pm.
Saturday morning services are held in the main Shule, often with a simcha such as a Bar-Mitzvah or wedding callup involved, often with the Synagogue choir in attendance, and are followed by a Kiddush in the upstairs (Winton) hall. In winter, cholent is also served at the Kiddush!
The Thursday morning services, to which of course all are welcome, are held in the Minor (Herscu) Synagogue. They are attended by a dedicated group of regulars including residents from the nearby St.Kilda Rd area, business people prior to going to their city offices, and some retired congregants. The service is then followed by a catered breakfast in the Boardroom, and is a lovely way to start the day.
Other services are of course held throughout the year, including Rosh Chodesh, and all the major and minor Festivals and Fasts.
A full schedule of both the Principal Festivals and the Full Events Calendar listing all services can be found on this website.
